There are several major schools of psychotherapy. What differentiates
them, generally, is how they define problems, what the perceived
role of therapy/therapist is, and what therapeutic
"tools" are used.
There is no convincing evidence that any one form of treatment is more effective than any other. In fact, current research suggests that it is not the type of therapy that matters (in terms of achieving the "best results") but the quality of the therapeutic relationship. Descriptions are provided here to suggest the general feel of a particular approach. |
