Generally, psychotherapy is any form of treatment for psychological or emotional disorders in which a trained person establishes a relationship with someone for the purpose of modifying or removing existing symptoms and promoting growth. To facilitate this, therapists try to create a therapeutic situation that will enable people to express themselves with complete freedom, while the therapist maintains consistent, warm, nonjudgmental interest. What psychotherapy "looks like" and "feels like," however, will vary from one therapist to the next.
